In 2008 following the sale of The Prisoner, Dave Phinney was introduced to the French Catalonian town of Maury. Since then, he has purchased over 300 acres of vineyards and built a winery specifically for those plantings. He has spent the last fifteen years making wines with Richard Case and Bob Doyle, always trying to learn and improve with each vintage.
Façade is our white wine produced from the Grenache Gris grape, found interplanted amongst the various vineyard plots of old-vine Grenache. Inefficient in nature, the vineyard team has to walk thourgh all of the Grenache Rouge plots to find the rare Grenache Gris fruit to harvest.
THE LABEL
Taken by Dave from his hotel room at Hotel Arts Barcelona, the label pictures Torre MAPFRE and the Balearic Sea beyond, a familiar view for Dave during his numerous trips between Maury and Napa every year.
WINEMAKER’S NOTES
The 2024 Façade Grenache Gris pours a light, pale gold and opens with aromatic notes of Bartlett pear, white peach, tropical longan, white pepper, jasmine and a hint of crème fraîche and vanilla. Expansive on entry, the palate is a gorgeous mélange of crabapple, star fruit, wet river rock and musk. A finish of lemon custard, lemon pith and a touch of oak round out the wine to a crisp note of bright acidity.
